Τhe Sanctuary of Apollo - The excavation: Finds

Τhe finds of the sanctuary are numerous, and consist mainly of pottery, some of it very fine, for use on formal occasions, and some of it of a lesser quality, intended for everyday use. Most of it is in fragments, dating from all the historical periods. Among the finds yielded by the excavations are also a large number of oil lamps dating from Archaic to Roman times, fragments of marble statuettes and of clay figurines, small marble grave altars  and a large number of inscriptions and various other objects.

no. 27: Handle of a Samian commercial amphora stamped with the head of the Tyche of a city. 4th c. BC.,
no. 28: double handle of a Koan amphora with a stamp. Hellenistic period,
no. 29: Fragments of double handles of Koan commercial amphorae. Hellenistic period.

 

no. 35: Lower part of a marble statuette of Aphrodite. Probably of the Hellenistic period,
no. 36a: Fragment of a two figured-group, one of which (on the right) is that of a child,
no. 36b: fragment of the right foot of a small marble statue,
no. 37: head of a clay figurine of a woman. Hellenistic period,
no. 38: clay head of a bearded man from the handle of a brazier. Hellenistic period,
no. 39: marble cosmetics pestle in the shape of a finger. Hellenistic period.
