After the earthquake of 554, the settlement continued to be inhabited for a century longer until the raids of the Arabs, who dominated the east Mediterranean in only a few decades, wresting control of the trade routes to Asia Minor and Egypt from Constantinople. These raids caused the inhabitants to abandon the coast of Halasarna once and for all.
During the second phase of life in the settlement the exterior walls of buildings surviving the earthquake are reinforced in order to be reused. The old houses are divided into smaller spaces.
